Simon SS 220 HP

This is my scratch-built 1/76th scale 00 gauge model of a Fire Service Simon SS220 Hydraulic Platform. I built the model from 20thou. & 40thou. Plasti-card. The hydraulic platform is a fully working model. The three booms work independently and can reach a scale height of 72 feet. The vehicle is also scratch-built from plasti-card using a Volvo cab taken from a BW Models white metal kit.

Having done 15 years on the model show circuit; my working model of the Simon SS220 Hydraulic Platform was showing signs of wear & tear, mainly due to showing people how the model works.

The cross-over platform at the knuckle of the 2 main booms had to be replaced, not an easy job as the booms are made of plasti-card and had to be dismantled. At the same time I decided to replace the lettering on the boom with a style more in keeping with that used by Simon Engineering, the original lettering was done with a water-slide alphabet sheet (all I had at the time). Having done the repairs I thought I'd up-load a better photo than the one on the site.

I hope in time to build a new vehicle to mount the hydraulic platform on.
