Slab City, the Hasselblad Version

Frank here runs a free internet cafe in Slab City, about 6 miles from the eastern coast of the Salton Sea. He's been a fulltime Slabber for 2 years, and had visited consistently for more than a decade before settling down. He found a man willing to pay $40 a month to have internet beamed to the Slabs, and Frank decided he would offer the service free of charge to anyone willing to use it. A donation is asked for but never required. He even offers free coffee in the mornings most days. The solar panels behind him have grown from the original smaller one, to include the 5 larger ones in the far background.

Frank was one of the residents who I spoke to and photographed for my upcoming video on the area, out sometime in January. Check back for more pictures of Frank and other residents here and on my website

UPDATE 1 12/25/11- Half of the audio of the video is done. Now for some photos!

Strobist:

Ambient was f/11 at 1/125 for ISO 100, so I exposed for f/11 at 1/500 at 100 ISO, and lit Frank with a WhiteLighting 1600 at 1/4th power Camera right into a 36 inch umbrella.
