Facundity
Holbrook, AZ | Joe & Aggies Mural
This is the exterior wall of a cafe in Navajo county that has been run continuously by one family serving Mexican and American food since 1943. Inside, the place is preserved (forgive its booth tears and broken jukebox) from a bygone era. It remains an unpretentious place to eat real good food, served by friendly genuine folks. We walked in at 11 AM and ordered stacks of hot cakes (pancakes), huevos rancheros and enchiladas. Their green and red chile sauces were equally flavourful and approaching 4,000 Scoville units, which is to say, mildly spicy. All food was made-to-order and tasty. Lard is not used to prepare the beans (thumbs up!) and servings were generous and fairly priced. I asked for permission to photograph while we were inside. The decor is filled with droll humor, southwestern charm and Americana that reminds that you are on the "Mother Road." Every booth came equipped with jocular, quickly-read paperbacks to pass the time while food was being prepared. We felt welcomed and had a genuine meal. Worth the stop in town when visiting Petrified Forest or passing through to/from Vegas. For those who can't get here, enjoy the dive on Route 66; check out the following three items in my Flickrstream!
