Nigel Akam, a distinguished Toronto based Cinematographer, was given the opportunity to be the first in Canada to test the new Canon EOS C300. Nigel was asked by Canon to demostrate the camera working in different shooting environments, with different ISO's and highlighting the use of EOS lenses. 'la balle rouge' is his mini-film which follows the connecting thread of a red ball.
Nigel shot in 'Canon Log Gamma' which records a semi-flat look that allows more image information to be retained to the Canon XF codec. Partner Diane Akam edited the film in FCP 7 and media-managed the final footage to be brought to PPD for colour grading. Utilizing PPD's brand-new DaVinci Resolve suite, finishing editor Bruce Rees was able to reveal the stunning dynamic range of the footage and work with Nigel to perfect the look of the film.
