Brighton Bounce

This was taken from Brighton’s surviving pier looking west towards the old and dilapidated, but very iconic, West Pier.

The most challenging thing about capturing this image was the fact that the pier promenade itself is made from a series of long planks that have a lot of flex in them. Not too bad if it’s just yourself trying to keep still for a long exposure, but being Brighton Pier, there is an endless stream of fun seeking life bouncing their way along the pier at any given time.

Picture yourself standing on a trampoline with your tripod and an Olympic gymnast doing somersaults alongside!

So the photographic technique is not so much about apertures and shutter duration so much as factoring in walking speed and weight before the next crowd of sightseers make it to the other end of the plank that the tripod is sitting on.

Thanks as always for your interest and support.
