The 250,000 ton 'Supertanker' Esso Northumbria leaves the Tyne on her maiden voyage in 1969. She was the first of several such ships built at Swan Hunter, Wallsend. I think that may be sister ship Esso Hibernia on the slipway right background.

My Dad took me to see her leave the river.
