The Saddle Shop

It is difficult to understand what day to day life must have been like before the invention of the internal combustion engine towards the end of the 19th century. It transformed lives in a way that nobody could have imagined at the time.

This photograph was taken on my recent visit to Milestones Living Museum and depicts a shop frontage as it may have looked in Victorian times when land transport was by use of horses, trains or just walking. The horse was as important then as the car is now and shops like this one would have been commonplace.
