Langstone, Hampshire

This location is one which is well recorded by photographers and, to a lesser degree, painters. It is not just a scenic view but one which is constantly changing because the area in the foreground is tidal and the overall lighting alters throughout the day. Today the tide was out which was a pity because it was unusually calm weather that might have provided some interesting reflections. Perhaps that is for another day!

The Royal Oak is a lovely place to have food and a drink or two and in the summer when the tide is high you can even sit on the edge of the footpath and dangle your feet in the waters of Chichester Harbour! The premises have been licensed since 1727.

The black tower on the right was an old corn mill dating from 1730. The sails that powered it have long gone and the property was derelict by 1934. However, by 1939 it had been converted to residential accommodation and it remains so to this day.
