Gold Hill, Shaftesbury, Dorset *
Shaftesbury is a Saxon hill top town founded by Alfred the Great, King of Wessex, in 880AD as a defence from Danish invaders. Gold Hill has been used in film and television programmes but is probably best remembered for the 1970's British television advert for Hovis bread where a young lad struggles to push his delivery bike up the hill.
