Catène de Containers II

Inaugurated in 2017 for Le Havre’s 500th anniversary celebrations, Vincent Ganivet’s Catène de Containers has rapidly become one of the city’s most iconic sites, and has even been dubbed ‘Le Havre’s Eiffel Tower’. It is a work of incredible paradoxes, the metallic giants giving off an unalterable impression of lightness. Their hard right angles are defied, alleviated by the curves of the structure. The containers, usually lined up on the cargo ships or neatly stacked on the quays, are upended here. As if seized by a frantic desire for freedom.
