Closeness to God begins at the point of admitting weakness, when I face up to my desperate need for Jesus.

'So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. 10 That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.' 2 Corinthians 12: 9-10

When I face my weakness two things happen: I first have to identify it and then, I have to face it. If I can first name it, I can then move on to deal with it. One way I do this is simply that I realize how much I need Jesus. I am not much without the power of Jesus in my life. My weakness is considerable! As Paul says in the 2 Corinthians reading, ‘I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.’ Any success I have in dealing with my weakness is attributable to Jesus alone. Praise God!
