B-17 Flying Fortress G-BEDF Sally B is the last remaining airworthy B-17 in Europe.
After the US Air Force finished with the aircraft, it was sold to the French Government in the 1950s who used it for conducting surveys and mapping work. It was retired in the 1970s as the costs of using the aircraft increased.
It was then purchased by businessman Ted White in March 1975.
The aircraft has been involved in several commemorations, such as the 60th Anniversary of VE Day where the Sally B flew down The Mall and Buckingham Palace.
The aircraft has a supporter club with 8,000 volunteers who help pay the costs of keeping the Sally B in the air.
The aircraft was used by Warner Bros for their film Memphis Belle. At the time, it was fitted with special smoke cannisters, which are still in use today, simulating fire in the port engines, and deployed on the last run of the day as a tribute to the aircraft's supporters.
