Sanders 524 1345hrs Wells-next-the-Sea to Cromer 311024

Back to 31st October 2024……..

Final day of the 2024 Summer Season Coasthopper service CH1 timetable and after an iffy start, what a day it turned out to be with wall to wall bright late October sunshine. In this shot we see Sanders North Walsham depot based MCV Evora bodied Volvo B8RLE type number 524 - BV22 HBN “Norfolk Wanderer” which is captured as it heads along the A149 Coast Road between Cley-next-the-Sea and Salthouse with the above journey. In the background we have the wide expanse of Cley Marshes and beyond, the shingle bank sea defences are just visible through the mist. The area to the left is known as Snipes Marsh. Can you spot the bike and the walker?

As in previous years, for the Winter Season from tomorrow - Friday 1st November - the Monday to Friday service CH1 timetable reverts to hourly with nine journeys each way, including an early morning short working between Wells and Sheringham. On Saturday the hourly frequency provides eight journeys each way and on Sunday the five Cromer - Wells and six Wells - Cromer journeys run to a roughly ninety minute frequency. In addition, the Monday to Saturday evening service over the Cromer - Sheringham section also comes to an end after operations this evening.

My vantage point was the steps leading to the Norfolk Ornithologists Association Walsey Hills reserve and hide, once home to a Royal Observer Corps Cold War underground monitoring post which, having opened in 1958 closed ten years later in 1968.
