Sanders 518 1130hrs Wells-next-the-Sea to Cromer 221021

With the cloud cover starting to build, Sanders MCV Evora bodied Volvo B8RLE type number 518 - BV21 OOA “Norfolk Adventurer” is captured roughly half way between Warham and Binham as it passes over Fiddler’s Hill crossroads while working the above diverted Coasthopper service CH1 journey.

A short distance along the Stiffkey road to the right as we look there is a Ford, which crosses Binham Stream, a tributary of the River Stiffkey, with a pedestrian footbridge, although the latter is completely overgrown with nettles and brambles. Along the Wighton road to the left is the entrance to the Fiddler’s Hill burial mound or barrow, part of which was previously situated beneath my vantage point before the road was altered in the early 1930s. Barrows are the most numerous prehistoric monuments in Norfolk, although many of them have been destroyed or damaged by erosion or ploughing. This one probably dates from the Late Neolithic or to the Bronze Age, so it may have been here for over 3000 years.

Due to building renovation related works, the A149 currently has a width restriction at Stiffkey. As a result all Coasthopper service CH1 journeys are diverting in both directions over the Morston - Wells section by way of Langham, Binham and Warham. A minibus shuttle service is provided along the normal route via Stiffkey which connects with the main service vehicles at Morston, again in both directions. I understand that the diversion is expected to be in place until early December.
