Bluebird Smooth Aster

Sadie gave me this Aster from Bustani. Love how fresh & lovely it remained even after our first deep freeze several weeks ago. Temps down to 19 that night. The few remaining butterflies were also appreciative.

Symphyotrychum laeve 'Bluebird'

Bustani Plantfarm Catalog provides:

Plant Description:

The species Aster laevis is native to most of the United States and Canada, including Oklahoma. The selection ?Bluebird' was made by Dr. Richard Lighty of the Mt. Cuba Horticulture Center in Delaware and is an excellent choice for the garden. We've had it for a number of years in our display beds where it produces huge flower heads of about one inch in diameter which are more blue than purple. Probably the most amazing thing about this perennial is that it doesn't run or spread, even in moist fertile soil. Bluebird is a top choice plant wherever you want a butterfly attracting, fall-blooming and well-behaved perennial.
