Chapter The Ninth: A Water Merchant Indeed
There is a pause in the data cylinders, but they were able to be rebooted and Jack Taylor's audio logs continued:
" I awoke-I am not sure how long I had been out-with a headache that drove a burnig spike between the hemispheres of my brain, and one hell of a backache. I was on a makeshift cot in what appeared to be an underground bunker. I was also not alone. The water merchant Amanda stood bediside and explained what had happened.
I had indeed stumbled through an EMP barrier. My bio armor had gone dead, and the power surge affected me and I had gone unconscious.
And apparently, the government's Citadel is not as sealed as they would like its inhabitants to believe. Amanda, on a weekly basis, delivers several large vats of water to the Citadel. She had just finished said delivery when she noticed my body laying in the dust. Lcukily I had fallen still within the sniper's blindspot, otherwise i would have had another hole between my eyes, no doubt. She brought me here, to an old underground bunker, watching me and helping me recover. And for that I am eternally grateful. She asked why I was suicidal, seeing as I was attempting to break into the Citadel, one man against the government. I shrugged my shoulders and went quiet. She nodded in understanding then mentioned she was a member of a group of poeple who were attempting to do the very same thing I was, taking down th government once and for all.
'We could use a man like you,' she told me over a cup of clear, cold water.
I am still undecided, but she says she will be traveling to the resistance's HQ tomorrow, and I am welcome to come with her...."
