Pyper Pup
3/52 Pixie...and the lenghts I'll go to for a prop.
I saw these crocheted hats on Esty, and I knew it would make a great prop for a photo. You could purchase either the ready-made hat or the pattern to crochet it yourself. Being too cheap to buy the ready-made hat, I wanted to crochet it myself. Only one slight problem...I didn't know how to crochet. Not to be daunted by such a 'small' detail, I set out on a mission. First I canvassed just about everyone I know to find someone who could teach me, or better yet, make the hat for me. No luck. Still not defeated, I took to Youtube and taught myself how to crochet. I quickly learned that simply knowing how to do the stitches is not the same as following patterns and making an actual garment. So, I had to practice, practice, practice. I have spent the past few months crocheting my heart out. (All my family received hand-made dish cloths and coasters for Christmas). Finally, at last, I felt I was ready to tackle the hat. and TA DA...one dog hat. Here is the irony, outside of all the crochet hooks and balls of wool I purchased while learning to crochet, and purchasing the pattern itself, by the time I had bought the orange and white wool for Pixie's hat, I had spent more than if I'd just bought the ready-made hat from Etsy. It seems that while a tiny, little hat may only use a small portion of a ball of wool, they make you purchase the whole ball. LOL. I have enough wool to make hats for everybody! (no, I'm not offering to do so) Oh well, at least I have a new skill and the satisfaction of having made it myself. And Pixie looks pretty cute in her snazzy hat.
