Security Camera, Allison Wiese, 2003 - Present, 8"h x 7"w x 9"d each, wood, paint and LED module
Security System is an unlimited network of roughly simulated cameras, motion-sensors, intercom devices, loudspeakers and control consoles. All these faux-technological devices are made out of loosely painted wood, cardboard and found materials, including cigar boxes and twigs. They gain what credibility they may have as audio/visual machines from blinking light-emitting diodes. In this they are just like the “real” fake security camera at the Galveston Art Center that inspired them. A limitless edition of sort-of art multiples, the piece expands through time and space as I make and distribute more of its various elements. It’s first ten elements, all cameras, were awarded as trophies for the Cinematexas International Competition – innocently installed in the home offices of filmmakers around the world.
