Forfar - the Albert Street 'Mannies' at Glen Ogil, c 1947

In the years during the war, the bairns in Albert Street organised occasional 'parties' on somebody's back green. 'Parties' isn't quite the right word, as the focus of these events was usually a big bottle of Lamb's lemonade - Campbell's if Mrs Alexander has run out of Lamb's - passed from mouth to mouth. The organised kid's parties of today are a world apart, in which dads play a crucial role doing the barbecue and setting up the bouncy castle. Our dads were at the war, or missing, and In these days grandads were distant figures. So in 1947, with the return of the men, this street outing to Glen Ogil was a highlight. There's another photo of the bairns, but a counterpart of this one of the 'mannies', a photo of the 'wifies', hasn't yet come to light.
