First Day of the Shelter at Balmashanner, Forfar, 1929

Courtesy of Rodger Smith.

The date - kindly provided by Alik Whyte - was 5th September, 1929. Bonnets on parade with a vengeance! The new shelter at Bummie was obviously a popular installation with the 'mannies' of the toon. Two brave lassies can just be seen on the left, but public 'sitties' in Forfar were always exclusively a male preserve, and largely remain so to this day.
