Berber Dwelling (2), Aourir December 2009
A large and fully working berber house with gardens towards the river and space for livestock captured in December 2009.
When I next saw it in March 2010 much of it was in ruins with torrential rain having swollen the river and flooded the building in late February. Such damage is a common feature of houses on the north side of the main (Imi Mikki) Road when the river floods. The berber owner had started the long slog of clearing out the debris. I expect that by mid-May the rebuilding will be well underway and that the house will look much as it does here when finished. The industry and resourcefulness of the berber people are amazing.
