Museum in Waiting 2009
Designed by the Danish firm of architects 3XNielson. The relationship between 3XN and the clients (National Museum of Merseyside) didn't go smoothly, with 3XN complaining that the client was continuously demanding changes to the design. Late in 2007 3XN were sacked and the job of completing the building given to AEW of Manchester. The main change at that stage involved replacing the proposed marble cladding with cheaper Jura limestone. For an outline of the original 3XN proposal, click on
