After the War was over - a John Street 'Welcome Home' Party in Forfar c 1945
Thanks to Clema Troup and Maureen Stirling for this photo and for identifying a good number of those on it. Hover your cursor over the image to see the names of the people recognised. (The Flickr system is flakey, so you may have to dodge the cursor about a few times for a name to show up.) Many of the Forfarians here lived at the north end of the town, around John Street. They were often relatives as well as neighbours, with a good turnout of Duncans and Youngs.
The consensus is that the photo shows a 'Welcome Home' for local men, probably held in the 'Mert'. The bouquets were given to the organisers of the event. Parties celebrating the end of the war - and quite a few 'jaants' - were organised on a neighbourhood basis as the men returned to civilian life.
