semaphore signal at the Waltham control tower
This railroad control tower was built in 1928 for the Boston & Maine RR, and was in use until June, 2013 (most recently by MBCR.) The semaphore signal on the tower's roof wasn't used for that long, though (generally these types of signal were phased out by the 1940s in favor of electric lights) but it's been left in place and all the glass lenses are intact. Like the order board signals that are still on the stations in Reading and Andover, the metal part is stamped "B&M Signal Department."
