Air Wash Spray Mask
An Air Wash Protective Mask - patent applied for in November, 1946, accepted in July, 1949. Invention by Eric Douglas.
"...The object of this invention is to provide
an air wash protective mask which
will fully protect the eyes, respiratory
tracts, lungs, and stomach of a person
engaged on, or in contact with doping,
spray painting and fumigating with
liquids containing pigments or giving
off spray, toxic fumes or the like which
are injurious to the human body...
...A further object is to provide a protective
mask which is comfortable on
the wearer and which embodies means
for supplying to the wearer an ample
supply of clean and pure atmospheric
air thus enabling him to work comfortably
for long periods in contaminated
areas...
...Figures 1, 2 and 4, are respectively
side elevation, plan and front elevation
of the apparatus;
Figure 3 is a fragmentary view on
the line A-A of Figure 1 showing the
air distributor and its fastenings;
Fgure 5 is a fragmentary section on
the line B-B of Figure 1; and
Figure 6 is a fragmentary section on
the line C-C of Figure 2..."

Eric Douglas invented this protective spray mask when he was C/O of RAAF Amberley. He also invented a Boltless Aircraft undercarriage but did not apply for a Patent as he considered it to be of prime interest to the RAAF rather than himself personally.
