Ferrofluid
Olympus e-510 Camera with stock 42mm lens. In this photo, 5400K Color balance was used. Material that was used was Ferrofluid. Essentially ferrofluid contains iron particles suspended in an oil carrier. Since it contains iron, the fluid can be subjected with a magnet (magnet was placed underneath the fluid) and each spike that is shown are the lines of the magnetic field.
