Having left Denver earlier in the day, Santa Fe 191 paused at Rio Grande's Colorado Springs depot on its run south to La Junta. The pint sized train consists of E8Am 81 (a regular staple of the run in the late 1960s), Baggage 3939 and a 28xx series Coach. Of note is 3939. The trucks the car is riding on are unique among Santa Fe passenger equipment. It was the only car in the fleet equipped with LFM/Rockwell lightweight trucks. Being a one-off, Santa Fe must not have been impressed enough to convert other cars. That said, they must have been satisfactory enough as the car rode on them for about five years. They would not be replaced until 1973/1974, by which time the car was in Amtrak ownership.
