Getting 'em to Gitchie Gumee

A train of unprocessed taconite from Northshore Mining's Babbitt Mine weaves downgrade through hills dotting the north shore of Lake Superior, closing in on the harbor town of Silver Bay, MN, with the dynamics whaling at the command of the engineer staying warm (hopefully) in the leading cab of his matched gray SD40-2 trio. The thermometer reads well into the negative double digits, with another 20 degrees subtracted for the chill of a steady wind, prompting NSM to cut train sizes nearly in half on account of air brake performance. With the big lake solidly frozen over, the ore will be stockpiled after processing in Silver Bay to await the resumption of shipping season a couple months distant.
