The day was a huge success with over 500 people in attendance. It began Saturday, September 11th 2010 at 2:00PM outside the Stadium in the courtyard. Several non-profit agencies, from York and Hanover, participated handing out Free items for kids and families along with literature to bring about community awareness the effects of Drugs and Alcohol on families; Coupled, with the Joy's, Peace and Happiness of Recovery.
Some of the activities for kid's and families included, Air batting, Face painting, Balloons, Dunk tank, Lowes building craft kits and Live music. At 5:00PM families entered the Stadium with purchase of a $10.00 ticket for all the Hot Dogs, Nachos and Drinks they could eat during the York Revolution vs. Lancaster Barnstormer game. At 5:15PM Dickie Ray Noles spoke about the joy's of Recovery and his personal journey. At 5:30PM all recovering indviduals and their loved one's formed the 1st Human Chain around the entire ball field, led by Mayor Kim Bracey. A moment of silence for September 11th was observed followed by the Serenity Prayer. Throughout my journey in recovery I have witnessed both, the despair of those that don't make it to another day of life; but also, the peace, happiness and productive lives that individuals arise too in recovery with families alike. I have felt the presence of God over and over through sorrow and happiness. But on that day, for a few short hours, I witnessed and saw the face of God through people of all generations and race united in love and laughter to celebrate Recovery! I wish I could have captured every moment to frame, observe and share. But all I have in memory of that day, is a tear of joy and omnipotent peace of love and spirit united.
