"Why I was there' self portrait

We were told to drink AT LEAST ONE GALLON of water every day while in the desert.

I was OBVIOUSLY not making a fashion statement while I was camping in the desert for 8 days. I was humbled by how hard it was, even with NOT being targeted by border patrol due to being white skinned and having a U.S. passport; having enough warm water to stay mostly hydrated; wearing fitting hiking shoes and clothing; eating enough food; walking the trails IN THE DAY (most migrants travel by night), having a GPS system so we would not get lost, etc.

I was there to walk the trails that migrant travelers walk, and then to be able to come home and share my experiences. The problems continue beyond the border as most undocumented people living in the U.S. live in fear daily of being deported and separated from their families.
