The original shoreline of Lake Michigan is the red line you see here. This fact really amazed me and helped me understand the unusual sand plots past the original shoreline, and how in fact it was all artificially made. During the main years of the construction of Chicago especially during the time of the 1893 World's Fair, capitalization was huge on building on top of natural resources, thus came about the phrase of moving, buying, and selling nature.
