A rare visitor
Red-bellied woodpeckers with their striking red heads are frequent visitors to my feeders. However, I've lived in my house on the Leelanau Peninsula for almost 20 years without seeing an actual red-headed woodpecker...until last Monday. It visited again on Tuesday and Wednesday, leading me to wonder if it has a nest in the area. Haven't seen it lately, but it was a thrill to see it and get some photos, even if not as sharp as I'd like.
P.S. The gold spots on the tree are pieces of suet that have been stored in the tree by birds. Chickadees and nuthatches do this, and I think some woodpeckers do this, too.
