Flight of Fancy

Although a top scavenger and all round pest, the graceful flight of this Herring Gull has earned it the title of ‘Flight of Fancy.

Herring Gulls (Laridae) are large noisy gulls found throughout the year all around our coasts, inland around rubbish tips, ploughed fields and large reservoirs and lakes.

The Herring Gull population has suffered a moderate decline over the last 25 years, with over half the UK breeding population confined to less than ten sites.

The population of Herring Gulls is widespread, and can be seen at almost any seaside town in the breeding season and inland all year round, mainly around rubbish tips.
