Dragonnier

The dragonnier of the Canary Islands (Dracaena draco), or common dragonnier, is a emblematic species of the Canary Islands or it has Presque disappeared from the natural environment. It is also omni present in Madeira and in the islands of Cape Verde. for a long time it was tought that it was endemic of Macaronesie, until the discovery into 1996 of a small wild population in the Moroccan High-Atlas, prees of Agadir, consideree today like the subspecies Dracaena draco ajgal. The species has an exceptional longevity. there existed in the island of Tenerife 5000 years an old dragonnier who was destroyed by a hurricane in 1868. The resin which past of the wounds is caught while drying, a reddish color, which was worth to him the name of “Blood of dragon”. One allotted to the tree magic powers and has his resin of the therapeutic proprieties. The former Romans used it as dye and made the trade of it.
