"Up Periscope"

I find the Double-crested Cormorant's blue eyes fascinating. Cormorants are large diving birds that swim underwater to fish. Often, they will surface with their bodies still under water, with their long neck and head out of the water, like a periscope, then back down again.

 

They are often seen on land or in trees, wings spread to dry their feathers in the sun. This one was seen in a lagoon at J.N.Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge, Sanibel, Florida.
