St. Laurentius Church, in "Fishtown"

St. Laurentius Church is an historic Roman Catholic church, established in 1882 to service Polish immigrants in an area of Philadelphia commonly called "Fishtown". It's twin spires tower over the crowded neighborhood streets.

My wife wanted to see the place where her grandparents were married, exactly 100 years earlier. We were surprised by the amazingly opulent Gothic interior, decorated primarily in pastel pinks and blues, with a full array of stained glass windows, and marble columns. The unusual wooden altarpiece was somewhat intricate, gold-gilt, populated by religious statuary, and flanked by murals of angels. St. Laurentius is an active church still serving a primarily Polish congregation.
