The Virgin's Bower

Why this is called the "Virgin's Bower" I have no idea. There is another common name that makes more sense: "The Old Man's Beard", but I have never heard anyone use that name!

Virgin's Bower is a perennial native wildflower of Michigan. It has a vining habit and leaves with three leaflets that some people may confuse with poison ivy when flowers aren't present...but, they are really nothing alike if inspected more closely.

The picture shows the seeds in autumn after the petals have fallen from the small white flowers.
