Autumn Wine Grapes
I was surprised to find the vines still loaded with grapes. The owner of the vinyard said that over half ot the crop was still unharvested (as of 13Oct.), because of the daily rainstorms. Apparently this vinyard refrains from harvesting wet grapes.
On the left in the background, in front of the gorgeous fall-colored trees, are rows of cherry trees. This peninsula was once almost exclusively cherry orchards as Michigan is a leading producer of cherries, grapes, apples and pears. Though cherries are still an important crop, grapes are more and more commonly grown for the wines that are locally produced.
