USS Cassin Young, DD-793

I never realized how sleek and streamlined a warship could be. This is the USS Cassin Young (DD-793), a Fletcher-class destroyer, built by Bethlehem Steel and commissioned on December 31, 1943. It served in many naval operations in the Pacific Ocean until it's final decommision in 1960. I like the goldenrod flowers that somehow managed to grow in a seam at the edge of the concrete wall.

Today, it serves as a floating memorial/museum ship at the Boston Navy Yard, berthed across from the USS Constitution ("Old Ironsides"). It's a part of the Boston National Historic Park, and has been in drydock since 2010 to make repairs to it's hull. (This photo taken Oct. 2011).

For Navy/arms buffs: (from Wikipedia and from the National Park Service):

DD-793:

has ten 40 mm AA guns

has seven 20 mm AA guns

was named for Captain Cassin Young (1894-1942)
