Not Always a Floating Log
Alligators seem to be everywhere in Florida. Every pond, river, drain, lake, swamp, wetland, anywhere with fresh water (as opposed to "salt water") might be the favorite spot for alligators. They are seen also in brackish water.
Usually, like the "floating log" in the picture, they appear to be docile. By necessity, I have even had to walk (carefully haha) over a group of three large alligators sunning/asleep in the sun, but one should always approach with caution. There have been many instances of careless people having been bitten by alligators.
