Autumn Berries

Several types of wild cherries grow in Michigan, and that's what I thought these were--wrong! The leaves are all wrong for Wild Black Cherry, Pin Cherry or Choke Cherry.

These are berries of Glossy Buckthorn, an invasive species sometimes called European Buckthorn. As the berries mature, they will become darker, almost black. Ironically this type of "buckthorn" does not have thorns.
