"Listen to the Mockingbird"
Northern Mockingbirds, the State Bird of Florida (and three other southern states), are great mimics, and they seemingly love to sing. The mockingbird's song was the inspiration for a classic country song, "Listen to the Mockingbird" (1855, Alice Hawthorne). The song, about a man's lament for his deceased wife, was popular during the Civil War, and has been recorded hundreds of times to the present day.
