"Come Hither"

The pistil and stamens of this Rose Mallow seem to beckon inticingly to insects, "Come Hither".

Swamp Rose Mallow (Hibiscus palustris), a native wildflower, resembles the old garden favorite Hollyhock. They stand 5-7 feet tall on the edges of fresh-water swamps or brackish marshes. This one was photographed in a colony of Swamp Rose Mallow at Lake Arthur, Moraine State Park, Pennsylvania, but I have also seen them in marshes on the shores of Lake Erie, in Michigan.
