Fallingwater

Fallingwater is Frank Lloyd Wright's masterpiece. In 1935, he designed this private residence for Edgar J. Kaufmann Sr., a prominent Pittsburgh department store owner.

Wright's concept of "organic" architecture was a "harmonious union of art and nature." In Fallingwater, he designed a home that was both part of the rocky hill, and of the waterfall. In a poll of the members of the American Institute of Architecture, Fallingwater was named the "best all-time work of American architecture."

The Kaufmanns used the home on weekends from 1937 to 1963. Then, the house and all of its contents were entrusted to the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy .
