Beauty Infused with Danger
On the way home from a 3-day birding trip to Magee Marsh, I stopped at Pearson Metropark in Oregon, Ohio, where a couple of people said they saw numerous migrating warblers. Although I saw only a few blue jays there, the three miles of deserted hiking trails were awash in vernal ponds and carpets of beautiful, lavender-colored wild geranium (aka "Crane's-bill Geranium).
One should always look closely when stepping in luxuriant greenery. In the picture, the large, 3-part leaves on the tree trunk and amid the Wild Geraniums are Poison Ivy!! ("Leaves of 3, let it be!" is the familiar caution for poison ivy!).
Both plants are native to Ohio and Michigan.
