Laughing Through a Second Winter

Another example of the variability of plumage in gulls which, for me, makes identification difficult. This is a second winter Laughing Gull seen at Sanibel Beach, Florida.

Juvenile, first-winter, second-winter, and adults are somewhat different from each other, and from summer plumages. A good field guide comes in handy, and knowing the location of the sighting is of paramount importance in aiding with ID.
