This invasive reed, Phragmites, has spread rapidly in wetlands throughout SE Michigan (and beyond). It has been mowed, burned and poisoned, but continues to choke streams and dry up wetlands, growing in dense, 6-8 foot (1.8-2.7m) tall masses.
