"Thar's Gold in Them Thar Hills"

The State Capitol of Colorado, a Neo-Classical building constructed in 1908 of Colorado granite, has a gold-leafed dome commemorating the "gold rush" days of Colorado.

As Denver is known as the "Mile High City", the 13th step of the west entrance marks exactly one mile above sea level.

ADDT'L INFO: A dome restoration project begun in 2012 replaced the gold leaf, and restored the tower to its original color, more bluish than the main building. (Thanks Ian Turnbull, for your comment about the gold leaf).
