Gulf Fritillary Visits Horrible Thistle

Yes, it's really named "Horrible Thistle", probably because it is densely wrapped in prickly spines. The flowers are generally light to dark purple, occasionally in white (to be shown in another posting later).

The Gulf Fritillary is a medium-sized butterfly, about 2.75" (7cm) across.

Both can be found year-around in Florida. This one seen at the Bailey Tract, Sanibel Island, Florida, USA.
