The Pool
One of the most beautiful spots in Central Park is simply called "The Pool". It lies in the northwest corner of the park, between 100th and 103rd streets. The north end of the park is the most forested (and on the day I visited, the least crowded), the place with the best opportunity to observe and enjoy wildlife.
Originally a small stream, called Montayne's Rivulet, was dammed to create the pond. Today clean city water flows into The Pool.
(By the way, there is a fine swimming pool and recreation area farther south in the park.)
Central Park is a large park (843 acres, 3.41 sq, km) in midtown Manhattan. Established in 1857, it was designed by Frederick Law Olmstead (American) and Calvert Vaux (English). Central Park, visited by over 37.5 million people annually, offers almost every type of outdoor activity.
